YOGA In 2006, I was experiencing personal trauma which led me to seek relief from my suffering. I tried different counselors/therapists/medications, but never felt satisfied with their results. I felt I could help myself, but wasn’t sure how. Then I found yoga. I was living in a rural community at the time with no access to a yoga studio so I purchased a dvd and tried it at home. I remember not being able to get through the first 10 minutes of the practice and physically feeling it the next day, but again and again, I returned to the mat. It didn’t take long before the flood of emotions started to surface. Tears would flow like a flash flood and then pass just as quickly as they came.
I didn’t know what to think about the transformations taking place – other than it felt good. I was working through the layers of trauma I had stored in my body and the release was so empowering. This was the beginning of my yogic path. Yoga became my lifeline and I craved more knowledge. I took a workshop and decided that I needed to become a yoga teacher. I obtained my 200 hour teacher training certification the spring of 2009.
Then in the fall of 2009, I received another 100 hour certification based on the fundamentals of Viniyoga. Currently, I am pursuing my 500 hour teacher training certification. My yoga classes are interdisciplinary and fun! My teaching experience includes my private clients as well as: volunteer teaching through the Street Yoga Organization, teaching at Elementary Schools in Portland, prenatal yoga at Alma Midwifery, chair yoga for seniors at community centers and teaching at various studios in Portland.
